TULSA - PRO®

Inside - Out Prostate Ablation

Transurethral

Directional Thermal Ultrasound

Unlike other ultrasound systems, you can monitor the ultrasound ablation process

in real-time and get immediate MRI feedback on the thermal dose and efficacy.

TULSA-PRO® SYSTEM

The Tulsa-Pro system, developed by Profound Medical, is a minimally invasive, MRI-guided device used for the treatment of prostate cancer. It integrates real-time MRI with a thermal ultrasound applicator to precisely target and ablate cancerous tissue within the prostate, minimizing damage to surrounding healthy tissues.

The Tulsa-Pro system represents a significant advancement in prostate cancer treatment, offering a targeted, effective, and patient-friendly alternative to more invasive procedures.

A prostate solution that is...

Customizable

  • Whole gland ablation
  • Ablation post-radiation failure
  • Targeted ablation
  • Targeted ablation of enlarged prostate with and without malignant lesion

Predictable

TULSA-PRO leverages real-time MRI imaging for both planning and guiding the procedure. During the planning phase, the physician defines the exact boundaries for tissue ablation. Once the parameters are set, an autonomous robotic system takes over, rotating and controlling the ablation process with precision to ensure the targeted tissue is treated accurately.

Incision-free

The physician reaches the prostate through the urethra.

What is the TULSA Procedure?

TULSA Procedure: An Innovative Approach to Prostate Treatment

TULSA, which stands for Transurethral Ultrasound Ablation, is a cutting-edge, minimally invasive procedure designed to treat prostate conditions by selectively ablating (destroying) targeted prostate tissue using high-temperature ultrasound energy. This procedure offers a precise and effective alternative to traditional prostate treatments.

The TULSA Procedure is performed in a Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) suite using the advanced TULSA-PRO® system. This technology allows the physician to maintain real-time visualization of the prostate throughout the procedure. By combining real-time MRI with robotically-controlled, directional thermal ultrasound, the TULSA system ensures accurate ablation of either the entire prostate gland or only a portion of it, depending on the patient's specific condition.

Key benefits of the TULSA Procedure include:

  • Radiation-Free: Unlike other treatments, TULSA avoids the use of radiation.
  • Incision-Free: The procedure does not require any surgical incisions.
  • Customisable Treatment: Physicians can tailor the procedure to suit the patient's individual needs, medical conditions, and desired outcomes.

The TULSA Procedure is FDA-cleared, offering a safe, effective, and customizable option for treating prostate issues while minimising risks and side effects.

Who qualifies for the TULSA Procedure?

Patient Selection

Patients who are MRI-cleared are eligible to have the TULSA Procedure.

Patient Prep & Positioning

While the patient is under anaesthesia, MRI guidance is used to ensure the ultrasound applicator and endorectal cooling devices are positioned correctly inside the patient.

Planning

Using intraoperative in-bore MRI, the physician defines safety margins guides robotic device positioning, and contours the targeted prostate tissue for each transducer element to define the ablation area and volume.

Delivery

TULSA-PRO combines real-time MRI thermometry and closed-loop control, allowing the physician to actively monitor tissue heating throughout the prostate and nearby critical structures. The system measures the ablation effect in real time and, through continuous sweeping movement automatically adjusts the energy delivery.

Confirmation

After the procedure is complete, contrast-enhanced MRI confirms accurate ablation of prostate tissue.
